RC Toulon travel to Italy on Saturday to face Benetton Rugby at Stadio Comunale di Monigo, live on BT Sport. Benetton failed to score against Bath last weekend in a 23-0 defeat, while the French side held on to beat Scarlets 21-20 despite an impressive second half comeback.
· This will be the first time RC Toulon have faced Italian opposition in the Champions Cup.
· Benetton Rugby have lost their last nine against TOP 14 opposition since a four point win over Biarritz in 2011/12
· This will be Toulon’s 50th game in the competition, and they become the seventh TOP 14 club to reach this milestone.
· Benetton were the only side who failed to score a point in Round 1.
RC Toulon narrowly defeated Benetton Rugby 30-29 in a thrilling Pool 5 clash at Stadio Comunale di Monigo.
- Semi Radradra gave Toulon an early lead in the opening minute but they were pegged back after an excellent Nacho Brex try.
- Francois Trinh-Duc kicked Toulon back in front but Edoardo Gori was able to score to put the Italian side four points ahead.
- Trinh-Duc put the French side back within a point before half-time, and Toulon took the lead after the interval when Tuisova broke clear to score a lovely try.
- Ian McKinley and Trinh-Duc traded penalties throughout the second half, but it was Francois who kicked the pivotal one in the 82nd minute to snatch victory from Benetton.
- Toulon host Bath in Round 3 at Stade Félix Mayol while Benetton travel to face Scarlets.
