Three tries in 13 minutes saw Pau complete a remarkable 38-33 comeback victory against Zebre Rugby Club to take control of Pool 3 in the Challenge Cup at the Stadio Lanfranchi on Saturday.

  • French side Pau backed up their Round 1 victory over Gloucester by fighting back from 17-0 down in Italy to claim a bonus point triumph and move top of Pool 3, three points clear of Gloucester, who beat Agen earlier in Round 2.
  • Hosts Zebre established a commanding 30-7 half-time lead with tries from Giovanni Licata, Tomasso Boni and Tomasso Castello as well as 15 points from the boot of Carlos Canna, with a converted Watisoni Votu try the lone reprieve for Pau.
  • A 53rd minute score from New Zealand-born back-rower Peter Saili boosted Pau's spirits, before the Zebre defence collapsed under significant pressure.
  • Referee Craig Maxwell-Keys awarded two penalty tries in five minutes, the first also resulting in Eduardo Bello being sent to the sin bin, before replacement fly-half Tom Taylor slotted a penalty to put Pau in front for the first time in the game in the 73rd minute.
  • Lekima Tagitagivalu rounded off an impressive fightback for Pau, who have now won 10 of their last 11 games against Italian opposition in Europe.
