Stade Francais Paris threw down the guantlet to their Pool 3 rivals Leicester Tigers as they picked up their first try bonus point of this seasons Heineken Cup campaign as they did the double over their fellow French Championship side.
Having struggled to score one try in their 16-12 triumph in Clermont the previous weekend, the Parisians turned on the style at a packed Stade Jean Bouin to run in six to move ahead of Leicester at the top of the Pool with 14 points. The Englishmen play their return game against the Ospreys in Swansea on Sunday and currently have 11 points from their three games.
Wales outside half Stephen Jones gave the visitors the lead with an early penalty, but Stade Francais were 15-13 ahead by the interval thanks to a close range try from scrum half Jerome Fillol and a 15 metre romp from Argentinian prop Rodrigo Roncero.
A break by Springbok wing Breyton Paulse paved the way for fellow international flyer Aurelien Rougerie to cross for a try for the visitors before half-time and the game was still very much in the balance at that stage.
After the break, home hooker Benjamin Keyser extended the home side’s lead, although a smart score from Paulse cut the gap to six points after 50 minutes. But Stade Francais were able to turn up the heat in the final quarter and a brace of tries from right wing Lucas Borges and another in the left corner from flanker Pierre Rabadan guaranteed them a vital bonus point.
