Charlie Hodgson scored five penalties as Sale Sharks beat Agen over two-legs to progress to the semi-fnal of the European Challenge Cup.

The visitors restricted a powerful Agen side to a 17-15 scoreline on the day, much to the delight of the hardened fans who had made the long trip from the north of England.

The Stockport-based side now face a tough test in the semi-final against Celtic League side Connacht.

In the end thought the lead amassed in leg one at Edgeley Park proved decisive, leaving the aggregate score 49-35 to the Sharks.
