Ospreys assistant coach Chris Gibbes says his side are determined to end their European Rugby Champions Cup campaign on a high at Benetton Treviso.
There is only pride riding on the Pool five clash at Stadio Comunale di Monigo, but both sides are hoping to end the tournament on a high. The Ospreys’ hopes were ended by Challenge Cup holders Northampton Saints last weekend, when they claimed a 20-9 victory at the Liberty Stadium.
But they will be confident of getting back on the winning trail against Treviso, who are yet to get off the mark in Europe. The pool table does not make for pretty reading for the Italians, who have scored five tries in five matches but conceded a tournament high 33 scores – 11 more than Castres Olympique.
The Ospreys cruised to a 42-7 triumph in round one, and have already claimed a 44-13 league triumph at their Swansea home. But it could be a different story in Italy, and Ospreys forwards coach Gibbes confirmed they will select a strong team.
He said: “Europe has been a chance lost, that’s the way we’re looking at it. We’re disappointed that we’re out at this stage. If we go back to the games against Racing Metro, we had the opportunities to win those games but we didn’t.
“It’s part of a learning experience for a young group and part of our development. If we add a bit more experience it could have been a different situation. We’re proud of what we achieved with a young side but disappointed as well.
“There is still a lot to play for in this game, we want to make sure we finish Europe off on a high.We’re going to Italy to do that and we know it will be a tough game. We’ve been forced to make a few changes but there will be a couple of new faces in the side.”

Benetton Treviso finally broke their two season duck in the top-tier of European Cup rugby as they once again turned on the Ospreys.
The Guinness PRO12 leaders were unceremoniously beaten once again at Stadio Monigo as a last minute penalty try at the foot of the visitors’ posts ended in a try which Jayden Hayward converted to steal victory at the death.
The win ended a run of 11 successive European defeats for the Italian side, providing them with a first win since they beat the Ospreys 17-14 in round 6 of the 2012/13 campaign.
Wales Squad member James King, playing in the second row, gave the Ospreys a flying start with a try after seven minutes when he galloped through from 20 metres, but Teviso were ahead 16-12 at the break thanks to two tries of their own.
The first came from wing Angelo Esposito and then back row man Marco Barbini crossed just before half-time. That allowed the home side to edge their noses in front at the break after Eli Walker had raced clear for a second try for the Ospreys.
In the second half the Ospreys hit back and went into what looked like being a winning lead at 20-16. Sam Davies kicked a penalty to bring the Welsh side within a point, but fatally missed with another that would have extended the lead.
But the outside half redeemed himself minutes later when his brilliant break paved the way for full back Richard Fussell to cross in the corner for a 70th minute try. But once again the young outside half was unable to add the extras and the home side remained within touching distance.
But the pressure mounted from the home side in the closing 10 minutes and scrum half Eduoardo Gori made the break that took them up to the Ospreys line. At the scrum, the power of the home pack told and French referee Mathieu Raynal had no hesitation in signalling a penalty try.
Full back Jayden Hayward stepped up to fire over the easy conversion and victory was complete for the home side.
