Sean Dougall may have scored on his Heineken Cup debut for Munster last weekend but he cannot wait to make his first European bow for the men in red at Thomond Park on Sunday.

The 22-year-old crossed for a try in the 22-17 defeat at the hands of Racing Metro 92 at Stade de France in Paris, but is relishing the prospect of facing Edinburgh in a Heineken Cup tie at home.

“I’ve heard so much about Thomond Park’s match day atmosphere on Heineken Cup day,” said Dougall.

“The lads have told me it’s hairs on the back of the neck kind of stuff, so I’m just hoping I get to experience that this Sunday.

“The whole occasion is just meant to be unbelievable and we just need to focus on the task ahead of us, getting the win!”

Munster will be without talisman and fly half Ronan O'Gara, who has been ruled out with a hamstring  injury, for the visit of the Scottish side who are looking to kickstart their own campaign after a one-side 45-0 demolition by Saracens.

Dougall admits Munster, the former Heineken Cup winners in 2006 and 2008. will not be taking the visit of their fellow Pro12 outfit and last season's semi-finalists lightly.

“It’s the Heineken Cup this time, so everything’s so much more intense and teams are just so up for it,” said Dougall.

“Edinburgh had a bit of a loss at the weekend against Saracens and I’m sure they’ll be firing on all cylinders to prove a point.

“But for us it will be nice just to be at home again after being on the road for three weeks.

“So if I get the chance to be involved it would be great, playing in Thomond Park in the Heineken Cup is what you dream of.”

Match Facts

Edinburgh’s defeat to Saracens was the fifth time the Scots were held scoreless in Europe.

The 45-0 loss to Saracens was also their worst ever European defeat.

Munster have lost their last two Heineken Cup games and have slipped to three straight defeats in all competitions this season.

The Irishmen have only ever lost two home pool games in the Heineken Cup: 32-37 to Cardiff RFC on 27 September 1997 (Musgrave Park), 6-13 to Leicester on 20 January 2007.

Edinburgh have never won in Ireland in the Heineken Cup. They drew with Ulster and Leinster on their first two visits, but have lost the five matches since.

Munster cruised past Edinburgh in Limerick to kick-start their Heineken Cup campaign with a bonus-point win.

The two-time champions led 6-0 following an error-strewn first half but they put themselves in a commanding position thanks to a Conor Murray try.

They still had plenty to do but sealed an emphatic bonus-point with three tries in the final 10 minutes through Peter O’Mahony, Sean Dougall and Damien Varley at the death.

The victory sees Rob Penney’s men climb to second in Pool One, ahead of a make-or-break December double-header with leaders Saracens. Meanwhile Edinburgh stay bottom of the group and face an uphill task to qualify.

Both sides were aiming to bounce-back from opening round defeats and Munster were well aware that a loss at Thomond Park would all but end their hopes of advancing.

Keatley got the scoreboard ticking after just three minutes and Munster continued to dominate with the lion share of both territory and possession.

But they struggled to turn pressure into points and could only count another Keatley penalty on 23 minutes as they led 6-0 at the interval.

But they began the second-half strongly and laid siege to Edinburgh’s half. The pressure eventually told and Ireland scrum-half Murray bulldozed over from close-range, with Keatley converting.

Six minutes later the fly-half added his third penalty to stretch the hosts’ lead to 16-0.

The encounter burst into life in the final quarter and a powerful rolling maul made the inroads for O’Mahony to burrow over. Keatley converted and Munster grabbed another quick-fire try within two minutes.

JJ Hanrahan burst from deep inside his own half, he linked with Keatley, who ignored his support and was hauled down short but the ball was recycled and Dougall dived over.

The bonus-point still looked likely to evade the hosts but with 30 seconds left on the clock they kicked to the corner from a penalty. Donnacha Ryan took the lineout and Varley burrowed over for the crucial fourth try.
