Edinburgh aim to claim another Premiership scalp

London Irish hooker Agustin Creevy

United Rugby Championship leaders Edinburgh Rugby will be aiming to add London Irish to their recent list of Gallagher Premiership scalps when they travel to the English capital for a Pool C EPCR Challenge Cup tie on Saturday.

Edinburgh have won each of their last eight games against Premiership sides in the competition, with five of those games being decided by a margin of five points or fewer.

Other key facts:

  • This will be the sixth encounter between London Irish and Edinburgh in the Challenge Cup, Edinburgh winning four of their five previous meetings (L1).
  • London Irish have lost five of their last eight home games in the pool stage of the Challenge Cup (W3) after losing only one of the previous 32 (W30 D1).
  • London Irish have made on average 197 passes per game in the Challenge Cup this season, more than any other team, while Edinburgh Rugby have the lowest average, making only 64 passes per game.
  • London Irish duo Agustin Creevy and Olly Cracknell are two of the three players, alongside Lyon’s Ethan Dumortier, to have scored a brace of tries in a Challenge Cup game this season.

Quotes:

London Irish fly-half Paddy Jackson: “It’s an amazing ground, it really is – and having the fans back on a regular basis really adds an extra dimension. As players, you can really feel the support of the crowd and it’s going from strength to strength every week. It’s a great stadium to play in and we feel we’re building something here.”

Edinburgh Rugby forwards coach Stevie Lawrie: “They’re doing very well. They love to throw the ball about. It’s really good to see Kyle Rowe doing well down there – he left us at the end of last season and I think he’s been a revelation for them. Most of their games have been high-scoring affairs, so that’s quite exciting with both teams going at it.”

London Irish leave it late to beat Edinburgh

Paddy Jackson in Challenge Cup action for London Irish

A late conversion from Paddy Jackson gave London Irish a dramatic 21-20 win over Edinburgh Rugby in the EPCR Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Mike Blair’s Edinburgh side had led 20-14 going into the final five minutes at the Brentford Community Stadium and were on course for their second Pool C win of the season following scores from Adam McBurney and Ramiro Moyano Joya.

However, London Irish flanker Olly Cracknell dotted down for the hosts in the 77th minute, before Jackson added on the extras to secure a late win for Declan Kidney’s men.

London Irish will look for their third Pool C win in Round 4 as they travel to Saracens, as Edinburgh take on CA Brive at the DAM Health Stadium.
