Dragons host Russian side Enisei-STM on Friday night

Dragons host Russian side Enisei-STM on Friday night, looking to climb above Newcastle Falcons in European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 1. This will be the fourth meeting between these sides, Dragons winning each of the last two clashes after suffering defeat in their first encounter.

· Enisei-STM have lost their last six games with five of those defeats coming by margins of 20+ points, the only exception being their last match against the Dragons.

· The Russian club are yet to win away from home in the Challenge Cup (L6), with all four of their victories so far coming on home soil.

· Enisei-STM are one of just three teams to maintain a 100% goalkicking success rate after two rounds, and are the only side to successfully slot a drop goal this season.

Dragons moved to the European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 1 summit with a 15-0 victory over Enisei-STM on a blustery Friday evening at Rodney Parade.

  • Adam Warren collected a brace of tries and Aaron Wainwright also graced the scoresheet as Dragons pushed themselves to the top of Pool 1, albeit with just a solitary point advantage over Newcastle Falcons, who take on Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday.
  • Warren broke the deadlock on 23 minutes as fly-half Arwel Robson evaded the Enisei-STM defence before floating the ball wide for the centre to crash over the line.
  • Dragons full-back Angus O'Brien was unable to add the extras, leaving the try as the only points of the first half as the hosts went into the break 5-0 up.
  • O'Brien was on target 14 minutes into the second half as he offered a neat grubber into the path of flanker Wainwright, who ran in the second score of the match, only for the conversion to ricochet off the uprights.
  • Warren's second score, nine minutes from time, again came courtesy of an O'Brien assist, this time a pinpoint cross field kick, as the Dragon collected a crucial win to bolster their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.
