Determined Bayonne get revenge on London Irish

Bayonne stopped London Irish from making it three in a row as they notched a 27-10 win at Stade Jean-Dauger in Pool 2 of the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Irish had won their previous two Challenge Cup meetings, winning a 2006 quarter-final and Round 2’s clash in November.

But the hosts came out on top, dominating from the off.

Manuel Ordas scored in the very first minute, with Sean Robinson and Jean Monribot adding two more in the first half.

Two Ordas conversions, a Brandon Fajardo penalty and a late try from Remy Baget stretched their advantage.

Irish could only summon a 31st-minute try from Belgium Tuatagaloa and a Matt Williams effort after the break in response.

Bayonne remain at the foot of Pool 2 having lost their eleven previous Challenge Cup matches – but they are now level on points with Irish.
