Bucharest Wolves have already made people sit up and take notice by winning half their group matches so far – and success on the road against Cammi Rugby Calvisano at the Peroni Stadium would guarantee them at least a 50-50 return from the campaign.

They won their home leg against the Italians 42-27 with a six-try salvo – Calvisano captain and former international scrum half Paul Griffen producing something of a one-man display with a try, three conversions and two penalty goals for the losers.

The Wolves followed that up with a 25-22 home win against Agen while Calvisano are still searching for their first win of the campaign and have banked just two bonus points along the way.

Match Facts

  • Calvisano have lost their last six matches in the Amlin Challenge Cup and have won just two of 16 in their history.
  • Bucharest have won three of their last five Amlin Challenge Cup matches, including a 42-27 defeat of Calvisano.
  • Calvisano scrum-half Paul Griffen has notched 34 points this season, the third highest tally in the tournament.
  • Samuela Vunisa has carried the ball more often than any other player in the competition. He has made 63 runs at a gain of 279 metres. He is also the top metre-maker when it comes to forwards.

Pour sa dernière rencontre européenne de la saison

Flanker Stefano Scanferla was Cammi Rugby Calvisano’s star with a brace of tries in their 34-20 win against Bucharest Wolves in a niggly encounter at the Peroni Stadium.

The Wolves, who had beaten Calvisano 42-27 in Round 2 and followed that up with another home win over Agen, never really threatened to do the double as scrum-half Paul Griffen – something of a one-man band for Calvisano in the last meeting between the sides – struck first with a penalty before going on to add a second before the break, as well as converting both of their first-half tries.

And it was the forwards who made their mark with the ball in hand as Scarferla and then lock Filippo Gerosa crossed for Italian tries.

It was enough to give them a narrow three-point advantage at the break and by contrast the Wolves tries came from their backs as scrum-half Florin Surugiu and centre Catalin Dascalu breached the home defence.

Florin Vlaicu added seven points with the boot but the visitors’ cause was not helped when wing Marian Apostol was yellow carded in the 36th minute.

Hooker Eugen Capatana became their second player sent to the sin bin in a feisty fixture, centre Andy Vilk profiting in his absence with another Calvisano try. Scanferla got the fourth but Bath are home and dry in Pool 4 after dominating the group from the off.
