It’s only about bragging rights when Edinburgh tackle Agen at Murrayfield on Friday with both sides out of the running for Heineken Cup quarter-final qualification.
With Leinster reigning supreme at the top of Pool 2 with four wins from five, it’s all over bar the shouting and the Irish province are playing for a home quarter-final against Gloucester at Kingsholm, also on Friday night.
Agen sneaked a 19-17 win at the Stade Armandie last October, but the Scots will be gunning for revenge having lost four out of the five games, their only victory being their 25-24 win over Leinster last October.
Rob Dewey will make his first appearance of the year having recovered from his knee injury. The centre, who had an operation to correct cartilage damage after his try-scoring debut for Scotland last November, has been selected for Edinburgh’s Heineken Cup match against SU Agen at Murrayfield.
His return to action is timely as Matt Dey is unavailable after being injured in last week’s pool match against Leinster. The only other change in the starting line up sees Dave Callam come in for Simon Taylor who has a thigh injury. Apprentice prop Innes Brown has a chance to make his Edinburgh debut after being named on the bench.
Lynn Howells said: “It’s good to have Rob Dewey back as he fetches a physical presence to the midfield. Unfortunately the change in the back row is because Simon Taylor didn’t make it through a fitness test this morning but he should be okay to train next week.”
“Agen are probably one of the most improved sides in the group and will prove stiff opposition but this game is important to Edinburgh as it leads into the league game against Connacht. Every player now has to put their hands up and show they want to play for Edinburgh.”

Agen confirmed second spot in the Heineken Cup’s Pool 2 with a 19-7 win at Murrayfield on Friday night.
With both sides out of contention for the quarter-finals, Agen started brightly with tries to Pepito Elhorgan and Morrison Faaletino, with both players adding the conversions.
Just as it looked like a French walkover, back-rower Alasdair Strokosch dotted down for Edinburgh, before Agen superstar Rupeni Caucaunibuca scored in injury time to complete the victory.
