Worcester Warriors failed to close in on Pool 5 leaders Connacht Rugby as the Irish province produced an inspired display to claim a 24-24 stalemate at Sixways on Saturday afternoon.

  • A Perry Humphreys brace as well as tries from Sam Lewis and Josh Adams saw the Premiership hosts cruise to a comfortable lead, before scores from John Muldoon, Niyi Adeolokun and Tiernan O’Halloran saw Connacht come from behind and retain control of Pool 5.
  • Wing Humphreys opened the Worcester Warriors account in less than two minutes and flanker Lewis followed just three minutes later as the hosts raced to a 12-0 lead, only for Connacht back-rower Muldoon to crash over and Craig Ronaldson’s conversion reduced the deficit to just five points.
  • Worcester extended their advantage when Humphreys raced over, but Adeolokun slid over for Connacht four minutes later in an exhilarating opening half hour, but it would be the Warriors who had the final say before the interval.
  • Adams crossed in just before the break and Chris Pennell’s second conversion of the afternoon saw Worcester Warriors take a 10-point buffer back into the changing rooms.
  • Connacht struck first blood in the second half as Ronaldson slotted a penalty to cut the advantage to seven points as the visitors moved with striking distance and O’Halloran raced in a third try for the Irish province and Ronaldson drew level with the extras to set up a tense closing quarter.
  • Both sides forged opportunities to win the clash, but neither could prevail as defensive efforts reigned in the final 20 minutes, meaning Connacht remain top of Pool 5 in Challenge Cup with one round to play.
