Scintillating Zebre shock Stade Francais

Zebre Rugby Club pulled off a shock 24-29 away win at Stade Francais Paris in Pool 4 of the Challenge Cup – only their fourth on opponents’ turf in the history of the competition.

They got themselves an attacking bonus point to boot – the finest revenge after the French club had edged the clubs’ first ever meeting 13-12 in Round 2 in Italy back in November.

This time, Zebre attacked from the off, scoring two first-half tries courtesy of Jamie Elliott and Charlie Walker, both converted by Michelangelo Biondelli – who then added a 21st-minute penalty to send his side to a 17-0 lead.

Segonds got a penalty for the hosts just one minute later to get them on the scoreboard before half-time.

Stade started brightly in the second half, with Sefu Naivalu scoring a brace of tries in the first ten minutes.

But Zebre were not to be denied, and added two more tries of their own from Pierre Bruno and George Biagi.

Thierry Feuteu grabbed a late try for Stade – but Guglielmo Palazzani finished the match in style for the visitors by kicking a last-minute penalty.

Stade Francais had won all 19 of their previous European games against Italian opposition.
