Flurry of tries as Pau pummel Rugby Calvisano

A pulsating performance from Pau secured them a long-awaited away win in the Challenge Cup as they crushed Rugby Calvisano 19-47 at Pata Stadium.

Pau have lost their last six away Challenge Cup games by an average margin of over 20 points – but this was a very comfortable affair from the off.

Alexandre Dumoulin began the scoring after just six minutes – and for the rest of the match, the tries were frequent.

Scrum-half Clovis Lebail, fly-half Bastien Tugaye, wingers Bastien Pourailly, Vincent Pinto and Eoghan Barrett, and substitute Thibault Daubagna all crossed for the visitors – and Lebail also added six conversions out of his seven opportunities.

Rugby Calvisano’s last Challenge Cup win was in January 2013, since when they have now lost 17 out of 18 games – and this was their second defeat at the hands of Pau, having lost to them 61-10 in Round 2 at Stade du Hameau.

They did manage three tries of their own, the first from Lorenzo Michelini just before the quarter-hour mark, the second from Kayle van Zyl after the break, both of which were converted by Paolo Pescetto. Marco Susio completed the scoring in added time when he crossed the line.
