Cardiff Blues are through to the European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finals after edging a tight encounter with Toulouse at the Arms Park.

  • The four points put Blues an unassailable six ahead of Sale Sharks in Pool 2.
  • Toulouse hit back from an early Jarrod Evans penalty and took the lead with a converted try by Cheslin Koble following some lovely quick exchanges in the build-up.
  • But Cardiff then produced a flashy try of their own by Tomos Williams after a chip-and-chase by Gareth Anscombe. Thomas Ramos' penalty then made the score 10-10 at the break.
  • A Ramos drop goal edged the visitors ahead before fine work by Willis Halaholo freed Anscombe to run in to score on 57 minutes, although he missed the conversion.
  • That's the way it stayed until injury time, when an Anscombe penalty settled matters.
  • The clash was a repeat of the first ever European Cup final in 1996, which the French side won in extra time courtesy of Christophe Deylaud's penalty.
