· Cardiff Blues have won on all three occasions when they’ve hosted Toulouse in Europe, all in the European Cup. All three fixtures were won by single figure margins.
· Toulouse have led at half time in three of their four matches this season, although they’ve only managed to turn one of those leads into a victory (D1, L2).
· Cardiff Blues top their pool despite having scored fewer points (60) than any other side in the Challenge Cup this season after four rounds.
· Toulouse’s Wandie Mjekevu (12) and Jarrod Poi (9) have made the most offloads this season, and overall Toulouse have made more than any other team (90).
Cardiff Blues are through to the European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finals after edging a tight encounter with Toulouse at the Arms Park.
- The four points put Blues an unassailable six ahead of Sale Sharks in Pool 2.
- Toulouse hit back from an early Jarrod Evans penalty and took the lead with a converted try by Cheslin Koble following some lovely quick exchanges in the build-up.
- But Cardiff then produced a flashy try of their own by Tomos Williams after a chip-and-chase by Gareth Anscombe. Thomas Ramos' penalty then made the score 10-10 at the break.
- A Ramos drop goal edged the visitors ahead before fine work by Willis Halaholo freed Anscombe to run in to score on 57 minutes, although he missed the conversion.
- That's the way it stayed until injury time, when an Anscombe penalty settled matters.
- The clash was a repeat of the first ever European Cup final in 1996, which the French side won in extra time courtesy of Christophe Deylaud's penalty.
