Worcester Warriors quest to reach the European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finals takes them to the Stade Amedee Domenech on Saturday for a showdown with Brive.

  • Aviva Premiership side Worcester enter Round 6 six points adrift of Pool 5 leaders Connacht Rugby, meaning topping the pool is not a possibility, although a bonus-point win over Brive would position them in good stead with three pool runners-up progressing with the five table toppers.
  • However, Top 14 club Brive are not without hope themselves, as a win for the hosts could see them move into contention for a quarter-final berth and the home advantage could prove significant in the heartland of France.
  • Saturday's crucial showdown will be a seventh meeting between the clubs, with honours even currently, but it was Worcester Warriors who triumphed in October's reverse fixture, prevailing 30-20, thanks to a hat-trick of tries from prop Joe Taufete'e.
  • Brive come into Round 6 having missed the most tackles in Pool 5, with 124 incomplete, while Worcester Warriors have dominated line-outs in the group, winning 62, more than any of their three counterparts.

Brive secured a Challenge Cup quarter-final berth after a dramatic day which ended with them beating Worcester Warriors in filthy conditions.

  • Brive's home ground, the Stade Amedee-Domenech, was waterlogged, so kick-off was delayed by four-and-a-half hours and the match moved to nearby Stade Alexandra Cueille, home of Sporting Club Tulle Correze.
  • The French hosts adapted to the conditions far better, with Sisa Koyamaibole scoring two tries in the first half, both converted by Gaetan Germain.
  • Benito Masilevu's pace opened up Worcester again five minutes after the break and Dominiko Waqaniborutu sealed a crucial bonus point with their fourth just before the hour mark.
  • Although Tom Howe belatedly got the Aviva Premiership side on the board with a try converted by Chris Pennell, Seremaia Boruto burrowed over with a minute to go to the delight of the sopping wet home supporters.
