Bristol Bears blast past Brive to secure quarter-final spot

Bristol Bears are through to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup for a second consecutive year, sealing it with a comprehensive 52-3 defeat of Brive at Ashton Gate.

They completed the double over the French side in style, having whitewashed them 36-0 in France in Round 2 in the clubs’ first-ever meeting.

Piers O’Conor and Dave Attwood struck in the first half, before an avalanche of tries in the second; Alapati Leiua, Sam Bedlow, Luke Hamilton, Will Capon and Mat Protheroe all crossed the line.

Callum Sheedy converted all seven – and kicked a tenth-minute penalty to boost the Bears’ tally further.

Brive troubled the scoreboard only in the 34th minute, with a Tedo Abzhandadze penalty.

The Bears now have 24 points from their five matches in the competition – and a 13-point advantage over second-placed Zebre.
