Scarlets took a giant leap towards the European Rugby Champions Cup quarter-finals by dismantling Bath at the Rec with a scintillating display of attacking rugby.

  • Scarlets' four tries earned them a bonus point which puts them four points clear of Bath at the top of Pool 5. RC Toulon, who play Benetton Rugby on Sunday, are level with Bath on 13.
  • Scarlets know victory over Toulon in the pool stage finale next Saturday will see them through, while Bath travel to Benetton Rugby with their fate out of their own hands.
  • Scarlets' victory at the Rec was founded on a blistering first-half display in which lock Tadhg Beirne opening the scoring afer 10 minutes.
  • John Barclay was sin-binned but the extra man did no Bath no favours as Paul Asquith dived over in the corner for Scarlets' second try and Hadleigh Parkes added a third under the posts.
  • A Dan Jones penalty made it 22-0 to the visitors at the break, and it soon got worse for Bath as Rhys Patchell's grubber was superbly finished off by Scott Williams for the bonus point.
  • Matt Banahan brilliantly collected a cross-field kick to touch down and Zach Mercer reduced arrears further, but two Jones penalties kept the home side comfortably at arm's length.
