Sale Sharks need to open their Heineken Cup account this weekend as they host Italian side Rugby Calvisano.
The Guinness Premiership champions were beaten by the Ospreys in Round 1 by a last minute Shane Williams try and James Hook conversion.
They cannot afford another slip this week.
Calvisano felt the full force of Stade Francais Paris in Round 1 – losing 10-45 at home.
Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Philippe Saint Andre said, “We are looking forward to getting back to winning ways after our disappointing display in South Wales last week. We must however respect Calvisano for the whole game.
“We need to win, and aim to get a bonus point too, to kick start our Heineken Cup campaign and set us up for the back to back games against Stade Francais in December.”
English champions Sale stormed back from their opening Heineken Cup loss to the Ospreys to hammer Calvisano 67-11 at Edgley Road.
England hopeful Charlie Hodgson kicked goals all nights as the Sharks ground their way to a 25-8 lead at halftime before hitting top gear in the second 40 minutes.
Hodgson landed two penalty goals before lock Dean Schofield scored the opening try, and Ben Foden’s quick-fire brace of scores made it 25-0.
Former Llanelli Scarlets fullback Roland De Marigny hit back with a try and two penalties for the Italian side, but Foden completed his hat-trick before Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe, Chris Bell, Sebastien Chabal, Jason Robinson and Chris Mayor all crossed late on, with Hodgson finishing with 22 points from the boot.
The huge win will give the Sharks confidence of making the final eight, but their next match is a dangerous trip to Stade Francais.
