Gloucester signed off their European campaign in style at Kingsholm, putting on a dazzling display of running rugby to beat Agen 60 v 7.

With any hopes of a quarter-final place out of their hands, the Cherry and Whites stuck to the task well in freezing conditions.

The game was less than a minute old when the hosts crossed for the opening try. Full-back Olly Morgan rose above the defence to pick out Freddie Burns’ up and under from high in the fog and Burns then whipped the ball wide and James Simpson-Daniel scooted around the defence to score. From out wide Burns added the conversion and then followed it up with a penalty eight minutes later.

Gloucester then shunned the opportunity for another three points, favouring a kick to the corner. Again with pace on the ball Gloucester moved wide, Tom Voyce barging his way up-field before the ball was recycled and Burns touched down and then converted his own try.

With a sin-bin apiece the frantic opening calmed down but Gloucester still managed to add another ten points while Conrad Barnard was off the field.

Burns kicked his second penalty and then converted Henry Trinder’s try. The young centre then crossed for his second four minutes later, diving in around the defence at the corner.

Voyce got the try he deserved for his first half efforts right on the stroke of the referee’s half-time whistle as Gloucester went into the break 41-0 up.

The opening exchanges of the second period were dominated by the visitors, who camped in the Gloucester half after the break. Captain Jean Monribot touched down under the posts, rounding off a free flowing counter attack from the French side, Conrad Barnard adding the extras.

It took the hosts until the final quarter until they finally found their second-half feet, Simpson-Daniel claiming his second try after 60 minutes.

Olly Morgan and Luke Narraway rounded off the evening with two further tries.
