Matawalu

Niko Matawalu of Glasgow Warriors scores his side's second try

Glasgow Warriors’ Heineken Champions Cup hopes are still alive after a 21-10 win over Lyon at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The home side started very well when Adam Hastings won a high ball before breaking two tackles and bursting into the Lyon 22 before being tackled.

The play reached Stuart Hogg who played a lovely grubber kick behind the Lyon line and it was Nikola Matawalu who jumped on the ball and bagged the first try of the afternoon.

Minutes later, Glasgow won a penalty in kicking range and Hastings made no mistake to put the home side 8-0 up.

Hastings popped over another penalty before Glasgow rounded off a stunning move with Stuart Hogg finding Matawalu again in the corner for a simple score, his second of the afternoon. This time, Hastings slotted over the conversion.

Jean-Marc Doussain kicked over a late penalty after a Lyon injury, but the away side were not distracted as they started the second period much the better.

That fast start was rewarded when Pierre-Louis Barassi dived over the try line and Doussain somehow converted from a very tough angle in awful conditions.

The only other points came from the boot of Hastings with another penalty kick as Glasgow saw out the match with ease. Lyon finished the match with 14 men as Etienne Oosthuizen was sent off for foul play.

Glasgow host Cardiff Blues in Round 5, while Lyon will take on Saracens.
