Connacht Rugby host Brive on Saturday afternoon at The Sportground, and will be looking to extend their three-point lead at the head of European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 5. All five previous meetings between the clubs have been decided by margins of fewer than 10 points, with the last four all yielding a bonus point for the losing side (Brive W3, Connacht W2).
· Connacht have won 14 of their last 16 games when hosting TOP 14 opposition (L2), including each of the last four in a row.
· Brive have lost 10 of their last 12 away from home (W2), although their two wins in that run both came in their last four matches on the road.
· Jack Carty scored 23 points in the Round 3 clash, the most of any player last weekend; Carty crossed for a try, kicked three conversions and slotted over four penalties.
Connacht Rugby moved one step closer to the European Rugby Challenge Cup knockout stages with a comprehensive 55-10 thrashing of Brive at the Sportsground on Saturday afternoon.
- Connacht Rugby winger Matt Healy raced in a remarkable four tries as the Irish province moved seven points clear at the Pool 5 summit, with Jack Carty, Kieran Marmion and Thomas Farrell also picking up tries in an impressive rout.
- Healy's first came in the opening six minutes before Carty added a conversion and a penalty to give the hosts a 10-0 lead, before Brive full-back Gaetan Germain hit back on the half-hour mark with a try, which he converted himself to give the visitors an injection of hope.
- Carty raced in his own try three minutes later, but Germain's lone penalty kick of the match kept Brive within seven points as Connacht Rugby went into the break 17-10 up.
- The second period was void of optimism for the French Top 14 side, though, as Carty started with a three-pointer from the kicking tee, before Connacht Rugby unleashed a flurry of tries.
- Healy went over twice in eight minutes and replacement scrum-half Marmion dotted down soon after as Connacht Rugby amassed an unsurmountable advantage.
- Connacht Rugby flyer Healy wrapped up a sensational display with his fourth score 10 minutes from time and Farrell added a seventh try for the hosts five minutes later as hosts retained a perfect record with a fourth win in as many games.
