Scarlets gave their European Challenge Cup Pool 2 prospects a massive boost by clinching a deserved 19-11 success over Bayonne and their first win in France in over five years.
In a tight-fought affair prop Rob Evans struck what proved to be a critical blow close to the half-hour when he plunged over for a try following a line-out drive.

Scrum-half Michael Ruru had hit-back two minutes later with a solo score and fly-half Romain Barthelemy also landed a penalty but the home side trailed 13-8 at the break due to the boot of Scarlets’ Leigh Halfpenny.
In a tense second half Scarlets edge further ahead through a Halfpenny penalty but Barthelemy cut the gap to five points again with the boot.
Winger Johnny McNicholl then sparked a brilliant raid which earned the visitors a simple penalty and Halfpenny duly gave Scarlets breathing space going into the final quarter to take his personal tally to 14 points.
Scarlets will look to complete the double when the two sides meet again in Wales next Saturday afternoon.
