Résumé du match de la 3ème journée: Castres Olympique - Ospreys - 07/12/2013 00:01

Ospreys and Castres renew rivalries in the European Rugby Challenge Cup this weekend, having previously met a number of times in the Heineken Champions Cup.

The series record between the Welsh and French sides stands level at 2-2. Ospreys are currently on the worst European run in the club’s illustrious history, while Castres will be hoping to compete in the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup this year after pulling out of their 2019/20 quarter-final.

Match facts

  • Ospreys and Castres have never met in the Challenge Cup, however they have met four times before in the Heineken Champions Cup, all four of those pool stage games being won by the home side on the day.
  • Ospreys are on a nine-game losing run in European competition, including all six of their pool stage games in the Heineken Champions Cup last season, it’s their worst ever such streak.
  • After defeat to Dragons in Round 1, Castres went on to win their remaining five pool stage games in the Challenge Cup last season, the last time they went on a longer winning run in the competition was in 1999/00 when they won all their pool stage games on their way to the final (W8).
  • Ospreys scored the fewest points (83) and tries (11, also Sale) of any side in the Heineken Champions Cup last season.

Parry double for dominant Ospreys secures Challenge Cup triumph

Ospreys Stephen Myler kicked 14 points

A brace of tries from hooker Sam Parry on his 100th appearance for Ospreys helped the Welsh side to a dominating 39-15 victory over Castres Olympique in the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

After Shaun Venter rumbled over for the first try of the evening, Parry added a pair of scores before the interval as the Welsh outfit led their French counterparts 25-3 at the break.

Castres improved in the second half to make the game a contest. Kévin Kornath scoring the visitors first try on 54 minutes.

But any hopes of a comeback were dashed with 13 minutes to play when Dan Evans notched a bonus point try, Stephen Myler kicking the conversion to cap a 14 point performance.

There was still time for Castres to answer back with a consolation try through Adrien Amans. However, it was Ospreys who had the last laugh as Luke Morgan added the side’s fifth try of the evening

Ospreys take on Worcester next week in the second round of Challenge Cup fixtures, Castres host the Newcastle Falcons.
