Leicester Tigers are desperate to keep in touch with Pool leaders Munster to set up a Pool deciding Round 6 showdown at Thomond Park.
For them to do that, they must dismiss the challenge of Bourgoin this weekend. And after their 28-13 win in France in Round 3, and coupled with the fact that Bourgoin are still pointless after three matches, they must fancy themselves in this match.
But Leicester captain Martin Corry has stressed the importance of diligence in this match, any team in the Heineken cup is capable of turning over their opposition – that is why they are in the elite competition of club rugby.
Louis Moody laid claim tot the fastest ever Heineken Cup try ad he notched the first score of his try hat trick.
That was the start of another runaway first half performance by the Tigers against their French rivals.
By half time they were 29-nil ahead with the bonus point in the bag after a mere 31 minutes.
Where Moody lead, Harry Ellis, Shane Jennings and Daryl Gibson followed before the interval.
It was pretty much one way traffic after the break as well. Replacement wing Tom Varndell raced 40m for try number five Andy Goode’s
conversion hoisted the advantage to 26 points.
There were ironic cheers from the 16,000 crowd when Bourgoin outside half Sebastien Laloo kicked a 40m penalty after 57 minutes, but that merely sparked a backlash from the home side.
Moody completed his hat trick with two tries in the space of three minutes and then Jennings made it five tries from the back row with an eighth and final try.
Goode ended up with seven conversions and a penalty for a match tally of 17 points and the Tigers’ steady recovery since their opening day defeat by Munster continues.
