Newcastle will hope they can end a run of three matches without a win against Welsh opposition in the Challenge Cup when they face the Dragons on Saturday at Kingston Park. The two sides met three seasons ago in the same competition at the pool stage, with the away side on the day coming out on top in both matches.
Newcastle Falcons won a see-saw encounter with Welsh side Dragons, only securing the Pool 1 victory courtesy of a late bonus-point try from skipper Mark Wilson.
- A pick-and-go try by Rob Vickers followed by a Toby Flood conversion and then a penalty, saw the hosts establish an early advantage. Later, Adam Radwan dived in at the corner to build a 15-6 half-time lead.
- Dragons hit back, with Rynard Landman touching down then Falcons allowing a high kick to bounce in their own 22 on which Ashton Hewitt pounced for a converted try.
- Debutant Gary Graham scored a converted try for a two-point Newcastle lead, but Pat Howard put the visitors back in front by chasing down a kick.
- Wilson's late try, a Flood conversion and a further penalty by the centre gave Falcons a hard-fought bonus-point win.
