Les Leicester Tigers ont réduit l’écart qui les séparait des triples champions de H Cup en se rapprochant du haut de la Poule 6, battant ainsi les Toulousains pour la première fois cette saison.
Cela signifie que la foule de 37 000 spectateurs attendue au Stadium de Toulouse la semaine prochaine devrait pouvoir assister à un autre match tout en puissance alors que l’action bat son plein à mi-chemin de la campagne des matches de poule.
Une erreur réalisée en défense par l’arrière Clément Poitrenaud après 11 minutes a donné aux Anglais l’avantage alors que sa passe dans les 22m a été interceptée par Ollie Smith qui a inscrit le seul essai de la rencontre.
Ce score est venu effacer la pénalité réussie plus tôt par Valentin Courrent qui avait donné confiance à l’équipe toulousaine de même que l’avantage. À la pause, Goode avait ajouté une pénalité et Courrent un drop, traduisant l’intensité d’un match serré.
La mêlée toulousaine était forte mais l’alignement en touche des Tigres a permis de récupérer plusieurs ballons dans les lancers et le coup de pied massif de Goode a permis aux Tigres de conserver leur avance dans la conquête.
Une deuxième pénalité de Courrent deux minutes après la reprise a repositionné les visiteurs en tête mais Goode a encore une fois atteint la cible à la 54e et 72e minute pour redonner l’avantage aux Tigres.
Toulouse espérait encore dans les dernières minutes du match lorsque Vincent Clerc semblait avoir effectué une course derrière les poteaux pour inscrire un essai mais c’était sans compter sur l’intervention de l’arbitre gallois Nigel Owens qui a remarqué une passe en avant annulant ainsi la performance.
Le stade de Welford Road a enregistré un nombre de spectateurs record dans le cadre de la H Cup à cette étape du tournoi avec 17 498 spectateurs. L’écart au tableau d’affichage s’est réduit dans les cinq minutes de temps additionnel mais Toulouse n’a pas pu rattraper son déficit.
Ils ont néanmoins sécurisé leur point de bonus défensif, ce qui les place tout de même en tête de la poule à un point d’avance par rapport aux Tigres.
Cela signifie que le match retour de la semaine prochaine pourrait s’avérer critique en termes de résultats dans la poule.

It meant victory for Tigers and a first defeat of the season for Toulouse. Toulousse will go into next week's return game in Toulouse with a one point advantage at the top of the Pool over the resurgent Tigers.

The pressure was maintained and Corry led the next charge which eventually saw Crane and Murphy combine to break into the Toulouse 22.
But the home back row hassled the Toulouse forwards at a ruck and Abraham hacked on to allow No 8 Crane to pick up and drive deep into the French 22. But as he went to ground there was a Tigers man over the top and Courrent was given a penalty to clear

Nyanga made a sweet break and Jauzion was just unable to provide the scoring pass on the Tigers 22 to give the Frenchmen the perfect start.
