The first of a Siberian double-header in Krasnoyarsk gives the Continental Shield holders the opportunity to add to the two pool stage wins that they have picked up in Russia in each of the past two seasons. Their only blemish on home soil last season was to Brive which could be a positive omen for the TOP14 visitors in Pool 1.
Bordeaux-Bègles got their European Challenge Cup campaign off to a flying start in snowy Siberia by running in eight tries to conquer hosts Enisei-STM.
- Two tries from captain Jean-Baptiste Dubié and 16 points from fly-half Mathieu Jalibert ensured the TOP14 side took all five points.
- Jurijs Baranovs scored for Enisei and a further home try was disallowed just before half-time as the hosts briefly threatened a Russian rally from 29-0 down, but a Jalibert try just after the resumption killed off their hopes of a comeback.
- Bordeaux's day was marred only by a dislocated ankle for full-back Darly Domvo.
- Enisei had previously won four of their last five home matches in the Challenge Cup, but their one loss was also against a TOP14 side, Brive.
