Edinburgh Rugby extended their hex over European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool 4 with a comfortable 50-20 triumph over London Irish at Murrayfield on Saturday evening.

  • Edinburgh Rugby now head into Round 4 of European competition with an eight-point buffer over second-placed Stade Francais Paris in Pool 4, having secured a try-scoring bonus point before the interval, thanks to tries from Stuart McInally, Blair Kinghorn and a Phil Burleigh brace.
  • Scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, winger Darcey Graham and replacements Solomoni Rasolea and Sean Kennedy all added second-half tries as the hosts rounded off an eight-try haul in the Scottish capital on a dank Saturday evening.
  • Despite ending up on the wrong end of a resounding defeat, London Irish opened the scoring in Edinburgh through a Tommy Bell penalty, while Ben Ransom, Mike Coman and Ben Meehan also added consolation for the Exiles.
  • Any hopes of a London Irish comeback were extinguished on 65 minutes when full-back Greig Tonks was sent to the sin bin, reducing the visitors to 14 men, during which Rasolea and Kennedy added a fine gloss to a routine display for Edinburgh Rugby.
  • Meehan gave travelling Exiles fans reason to cheer two minutes from time, but a second defeat in the opening three rounds means London Irish's hopes of making the knockout stages hang in the balance, while Edinburgh Rugby look certain to make the latter stages of the competition.
