Graham clinches last-eight spot for Edinburgh

Darcy Graham, Edinburgh Rugby's four-try hero against Agen

A remarkable four-try display from Edinburgh Rugby wing Darcy Graham clinched a place in the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Challenge Cup for the Scottish side at BT Murrayfield on Saturday.

Needing a try bonus point to be sure of their spot in the last eight, the Scottish international achieved it on his own by touching down in the 26th, 37th, 40th and 66th minutes.

As a result, Edinburgh finished on 21 points and qualified as the best runner-up with a ranking of sixth behind Pool 3 winners Bordeaux-Begles.

Agen had lost all three of their previous Challenge Cup encounters against Edinburgh by more than 20 points and they never looked like improving that dismal record.

Edinburgh, unbeaten in their 15 past home games in the competition, ensured that sequence extended to 16 by opening up a 22-0 interval advantage.

Although Jaco van der Walt quickly kicked Edinburgh into a 3-0 lead with a second-minute penalty, Agen, who had lost their last 13 away fixtures in the tournament, kept their try-line in tact for almost half an hour.

However, once Graham crossed for his first try, it was just a question of how many points Edinburgh would score as the wing ran riot.

Fellow wing Duhan van der Merwe also got on the scoresheet four minutes from time, while replacement Simon Hickey and Van der Walt both landed two conversions.
