The sides that contested the first Heineken cup final way back in 1996 meet for the second successive season in the quarter-final. Last season Toulouse were at home, and beat the Blues. Cardiff coach Dai Young will be looking for a reversal of fortunes this season.
Way back in 1996, Toulouse were crowned champions of Europe after recording a 21-18 win that set them on their way to becoming the dominant team in the first decade of European competition.
Under Guy Noves, they lifted the Heineken Cup on three occasions, and have been runners up twice, including defeat to Munster in last year’s final.
And Noves will take his troops to the scene of that defeat, the Millennium Stadium, for the clash with Cardiff on April 11.
The French side hit the road as eighth seed, and are tasked with taking down the top seeded side and only unbeaten team in this year’s competition.
Dai Young’s Cardiff delivered a perfect Pool performance as they swept aside Biarritz, Gloucester and a competitive Calvisano side.
