Scottish side Borders Reivers begin their fourth Heineken Cup campaign at home to Italian side Overmach Rugby Parma.
Reivers have failed to progress from the Pool stage when they took part in 96/7, 97/8 and more recently in 2002/3.
Overmach Parma are making their first appearance in Europe’s top club rugby competition after their 24th place play-off victory over Newport Gwent Dragons secured their passage.
They finished third in the Italian championship last season and will be looking to export their big-hitting brand of rugby across the continent.
Borders coach Steve Bates said: “Parma are the unknown quantity in our pool and we don’t know a great deal about them.”
Border Reivers made a perfect return to the Heineken Cup to claim a bonus point victory over Heineken Cup debutants Overmach Parma at Netherdale.
Borders got off to a dream start as they notched14 points without reply within the first quarter of an hour.
They seized control from the first kick and surged ahead with a try by Scott Gray.
The power of the Reivers pack was clear to see as the flanker was driven over the line at the end of a 20-metre drive.
Calum MacRae calmly added the conversion – then set up the second touchdown for Nick De Luca.
MacRae’s sudden change of pace allowed him to shake off his markers, giving De Luca the time and space to skip through near the left corner.
Having begun the job, MacRae put on the gloss with another well-executed kick from an awkward angle.
Parma broke their duck midway through the half with a Francesco Mazzariol penalty from 25 metres after the Borders were guilty of being slow to roll clear of the tackle scene.
Reivers were soon back on the offensive and John Dalziel was next to get his name on the scoresheet with an effort that was a carbon-copy of the first try – the forwards forcing the opposition into fatal retreat from more than 20 metres out.
Steve Jones took over the boot duties from hamstring-pull victim MacRae and he proved just as accurate.
MacRae limped off to be replaced by new signing Brendon Daniel, who went on to the wing with De Luca dropping to full-back.
Daniel’s pace and power was evident as he launched the move which paved the way for the all-important fourth touchdown.
Bruce Douglas and Opeta Palepoi were also involved before prop Ed Kalman ploughed over. Jones banged over the conversion to rule out any chance of a shock fightback.
Daniel rounded off the scoring, with Kelly Brown converting
