Saracens, the reigning English champions, will be looking to cement their position at the top of Pool 5 when they travel to face Biarritz in France on Saturday afternoon.
The English outfit, who ran in five tries in their impressive 42-17 win over Benetton Treviso last weekend, will know an away win against the twice beaten Heineken Cup finalists would be a massive statement.
But the French side, who were finalists in 2006 and 2010, have an impressive pedigree on home turf, losing only four of their 38 Heineken Cup games at the intimidating Stade Aguilera since 2000.
Biarritz will be looking to get their campaign back on track after the disappointment of their 28-21 defeat to the Ospreys, despite salvaging a losing bonus point in Swansea last weekend.
Saracens, who are only in their fifth season of Heineken Cup rugby, reached the semi-finals of the tournament in 2008 when they lost 18-16 to Munster at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Biarritz Olympique’s Taku Ngwenya scored a stunning solo try to earn his side a 15 v 10 victory in the Heineken Cup over English Champions Saracens.
In a tight affair at Stade Aguilera all the points came in the second period but Saracens did manage a late score through Alex Goode to earn themselves a losing bonus point.
It was the visitors through centre Owen Farrell who opened the scoring with a penalty after 51 minutes.
But it was Biarritz, five minutes later who struck with the first try. The inspirational Imanol Harinordoquy crossed for his side’s first score.
Julien Peyrelongue kicked a penalty to stretch his side’s lead then Nawenya scored his solo effort to give the hosts a commanding position.
Goode crossed with the final play of the game and Farrell’s nerveless conversion delivered the bonus-point.
