Overmach Rugby Parma play their first ever home Heineken Cup tie this weekend, and their visitors don’t get much tougher than Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque.
The French side were last season’s Heineken Cup runners-up, and winners of their domestic league. They were comfortable winners over Northampton in Round 1, and will expect to record their second victory of the season on Saturday.
Overmach Parma suffered a 35-3 defeat to Border Reivers in Round 1 and must galvanise their squad if they want to avoid further heavy losses in Europe’s toughest rugby competition.
Last season’s beaten Heineken Cup finalists Biarritz Olympique scored 50 points and a bonus point at the expense of Overmach Parma.
Dimitri Yachvili was the chief destroyer, scoring two tries, four conversions and a penalty goal on his way to 21 points and the Heineken man-of-the-match award.
The home side did threaten in the early stages of the match, scoring the games opening try after just seven minutes thorough flanker Pablo Sciarretta.
But the conversion from Francesco Mazzariol turned out to be their final score of the match as the French side flexed their muscles to score 47 points without reply.
