Bath Rugby will seek vengeance for a late defeat to three-times European Rugby Champions Cup winners RC Toulon on Saturday evening as the French heavyweights take a trip to the Recreation Ground in the English West Country as Pool 5 heats up, live on Sky Sports.

  • RC Toulon were made to fight hard at the Stade Mayol last weekend as Bath Rugby pushed the Top 14 giants to the brink, only for a moment of individual brilliance from Anthony Belleau to clinch a last gasp 24-20 triumph for the hosts.
  • Aviva Premiership side Bath Rugby will hope their faithful home following will give them an added boost in Saturday's late kick-off as they aim to leapfrog their visitors and take top spot in Pool 5.
  • Victory in the South of France last time out means RC Toulon head into Round 4 as Pool 5 leaders, but Bath Rugby stand just three points adrift with nine points to their name thus far, meaning Saturday's clash has Pool control at stake as a fight for European Rugby Champions Cup quarter-final berth intensifies.
  • Bath Rugby hooker Tom Dunn will be pivotal to their efforts, with the front rower completing the most tackles (56) in the Champions Cup so far this season, although RC Toulon's bulldozing centre Mathieu Bastareaud ranks eighth in the defenders beaten statistics having smashed his way beyond 11 tacklers thus far.

Bath Rugby blew Pool 5 in the European Rugby Champions Cup wide open with a rare 26-21 triumph over three-times European champions RC Toulon at The Recreation Ground in a memorable showdown in the West Country. - 16/12/2017 19:40

Anthony Watson scored a try brace in Bath's win over Toulon in the 2017/18 European Cup

Bath Rugby blew Pool 5 in the European Rugby Champions Cup wide open with a rare 26-21 triumph over three-times European champions RC Toulon at The Recreation Ground in a memorable showdown in the West Country.

  • England and British and Irish Lions back Anthony Watson chalked up a brace of tries and prop Beno Obano crossed as Bath Rugby avenged their last-gasp defeat at the Stade Mayol last weekend, with a result which sees them take top spot in Pool 5, one point clear of RC Toulon and Scarlets with two rounds left to play.
  • A partisan crowd roared Bath Rugby on as front rower Obano powered over the whitewash in the opening minute and Rhys Priestland's conversion, coupled with two penalties saw the hosts take a 13-0 lead in as many minutes.
  • Scrum-half Alby Mathewson opened the RC Toulon account just five minutes later and Francois Trinh-Duc's conversion and a penalty moments later saw the deficit shrunk to just three points.
  • Watson's scintillating pace paid dividends for Bath Rugby on the half hour mark as he left the RC Toulon defence in shreds as he collected a fourth European try in his 17th appearance.
  • A second Trinh-Duc penalty drew RC Toulon back within five points, but Watson steered Bath Rugby further ahead with another remarkable display of individual brilliance, completing his brace of tries as he evaded every defensive effort in first-half overtime.
  • RC Toulon returned from the interval ready to fight back, though, just as they did a week ago, with Samu Manoa touching down as the gulf between the sides was once again reduced to five points.
  • An exchanged of penalties between Priestland and Trinh-Duc followed, before Bath Rugby's stoic defence was tested with a 36-phase effort from RC Toulon, but it was not enough as the Premiership side held out for a first victory over the Top 14 giants, leaving everything to play for as the battle for quarter-final berths intensifies.
