2017 finalists ASM Clermont Auvergne take on Northampton Saints at Stade Marcel-Michelin this weekend looking to build on their Round 1 victory over Ospreys. Northampton suffered a disappointing 57-13 defeat to Saracens on Sunday night, and they will need to end a run of eight consecutive defeats in France if they are to avoid a similar fate, live on BT Sport.
· Since losing to Sale in 2008, Clermont have won their last 23 home matches against opposition from outside France.
· Saints have lost on their last eight trips to France, last winning in January 2011 against Castres.
· Judicael Cancoriet made 21 tackles in Round 1 and Jack Conan of Leinster also made 21.
ASM Clermont Auvergne secured a 24-7 bonus point victory but were made to work hard by Northampton Saints at Stade Marcel-Michelin.
- With six minutes gone, Fritz Lee scored the first try of the match after an excellent driving Clermont scrum.
- Dylan Hartley received a yellow card after 30 minutes and Clermont took full advantage when Charlie Cassang found a gap in the Northampton line to score on half-time.
- Cassang then scored a minute into the second half when he won a high ball inside his own half and sprinted away to put Clermont 19 points ahead.
- Christian Day gave Northampton a lifeline with an excellent try, but any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Etienne Falgoux went over with 15 minutes to play.
- Clermont will face Saracens at Allianz Park in Round 3, while Northampton will host Ospreys at Franklin's Gardens.
